Each fall D.C area law schools compete in a softball tournament that features teams from Maryland, D.C. and Virginia law schools.  In 2009 Maryland Red won it by defeating the University of Baltimore by a score of 16-12.  A Maryland alumni team finished third, defeating a team from Georgetown in the consolation game.

On Saturday November 10, 2012, two teams from the University of Maryland Carey School of Law competed in the 2012 D.C. Regional Law School Softball Tournament.  The tournament, which was hosted by George Washington University School of Law, was held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.  Also competing were teams from Georgetown, Catholic, Howard, American University and George Washington.  Maryland’s two teams each finished with 1-2 records in pod play and did not advance to the elimination rounds.

The 2011 DC Area Regional Law School Softball Tournament was held on Saturday November 12 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.  A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament, including teams from the law schools at Georgetown, University of Baltimore, George Washington, Catholic and American University. Maryland finished third in the tournament after losing to Georgetown in the semifinal round and then beating George Mason in the consolation game.  Photos of the tournament are below.

In the first tournament in 2003, Maryland bounced back from a first-game, one-run loss to Georgetown to win all its remaining games and beat Georgetown twice to win the championship which was held at Catholic University.  In 2004, the Tournament was held at the D.C. Tidal Basin.  Maryland’s team won all its games, sweeping to the championship by handily defeating Georgetown.  On October 19, 2008, two Maryland teams dominated the tournament, finishing as the top two teams in the competition, which made a championship game unnecessary.

In 2005, Maryland again won all its games until it met the University of Baltimore Law School team in the championship.  With Maryland leading, the game was suspended due to darkness.  When the game was resumed a week later, UB rallied to beat Maryland.  In 2006 the tournament was hosted by American University.  Maryland won all its games until it lost to UB in the semifinals.  In 2007 Maryland lost in the semifinals to George Washington University, but came home with the third place trophy when Georgetown forfeited the consolation game.
